Sup. DescriptionOn April 7, 2014 changes to the curbside collection schedule took place. Approximately 6000 households were affected by either a new collection day or a new leaf and yard waste schedule (identified as A or B week in the Waste Reduction & Community Information Calendar). Affected households received notices in the mail. The collection schedule has been re-aligned with the onset of a new waste collection contract with Progressive Waste Solutions. The changes will improve collection efficiencies and minimize travel times for the trucks There are three ways to confirm how or if your address is affected: 1.Visit Discover Barrie (maps.barrie.ca) and search your address. Click on City Services > Garbage Collection, then Searches in the top left corner. 2.Call 705-739-4219, 8:30-4:30 Monday – Friday. 3.Provide your address to the City via Facebook, at facebook.com/cityofbarrie. Sending a direct message with your address is recommended.

Bin Liners

Residents may line their containers with certified compostable liners/bags with approved logo, newspaper, box board, paper bags, leaf and yard waste bags, paper grocery bags, paper take-out bags, paper pet food bags, paper florist bags, or food boxes * residents may also wish to wrap organics in newspaper before placing it in the kitchen organics bin * this will help to reduce odours and absorb moisture * plastic shopping bags are not accepted in the City of Barrie's Organics Program because they do not breakdown and therefore contaminate the finished compost material

Examples of the approved logos can be found on the City of Barrie website or in the Community Information and Waste Reduction Calendar

Organic Collection Kit

If you are a new resident in a single family dwelling and have not received an organics collection kit, please call 705-739-4219 to arrange to have one delivered or pick up kit up at Environmental Centre at 272 Ferndale Drive N
