| Description | Organization whose goals are to provide support and social gatherings to veterans and their families, and to the community. Motto is 'Service not for self-but service for others'. The annual Poppy campaign is held the first two weeks in November, activities within the campaign are: tag days; a parade to the cenotaph on November 11, Remembrance Day, followed by a Cenotaph Service conducted by the Branch Padre. Proceeds from the Poppy campaign are used to assist ex-veterans and their families, bursaries for education, and literacy and poster contest prizes. Other annual events include: a New Year's Eve Dance; Robbie Burns night the Saturday before January 25; a District Public Speaking contest in February; a 'Fish Fry' in March; and a weekly bingo on Monday nights. Celebrates Legion Week in September. Also have an ex-personnel and dependants program, usually four times a year by appointment, where someone visits to answer government and veterans financial concerns. |
