Barrie and District Christmas Cheer

Description (Service) Put together and distribute hampers at Christmas to the less fortunate families of Barrie and district * each hamper contains ingredients for a full-course Christmas dinner, as well as lunch and breakfast foods for about a week * each child up to ten years receives a new quality toy and youths ages 11-16 years receive a gift certificate * donations can be made online through Canada Helps on Christmas Cheer website, sent by mail or dropped off at a centre * donor gifts can be made in someone's name (receive a gift card to give)

Boundaries Boundaries have not changed with the reorganized townships * serves former Oro portion of Oro-Medonte, former Vespra portion of Springwater
Eligibility Income and expense criteria
Application Christmas Cheer Recipients  
* Residents must apply in person for assistance * place and hours for application for surrounding townships is announced annually * see website for details applicants must bring with them: 
* Personal ID and proof of permanent residence 
* Proof of Income and Benefits (including Child Tax Credit) 
* Proof of Expenses (rent, mortgage and utilities, etc)  
* Proof and age of dependent children
* no appointment necessary, apply before the deadline * applicants will be advised when and where to pick up hampers at the time of application * applicants who apply or receive Christmas assistance from other agencies, will not qualify  
* Apply online through website or email Volunteer Coordinator  
* Volunteers under 13 need to be partnered with an adult * when signing up, register as 1 position each and you will be partnered together 
* for individuals looking to sign up groups of 10 or more people, contact Paul Rooney directly (an online SignUp and reminder tool) is being used
