Big Brothers Big Sisters of Barrie and District

Description (Service) Provides positive adult role models to boys and girls, ages 6 to 18, through volunteer mentoring relationships that are based on Fun and Friendship * offers a variety of programs that involve different levels of commitment/time requirements given by the volunteer * a registered charitable organization  
Programs include  
* 'One To One Big Brother/Big Sister program', an adult volunteer, 20 years of age and up, is matched to a child for weekly contact * program requires a minimum one year commitment * also open to couples wishing to volunteer together  
* 'Big Bunch', 2-3 adult volunteers are matched to 4-6 children on the waiting list for group outings  
* 'In-School Mentoring', an adult mentor is matched with a child in a partnering school  
* 'Little Brother/Little Sister Club', adult volunteers assist with the running of a group recreation program for unmatched children  
* 'Go Girls', female volunteers 18-25 yrs facilitate a 7 week program at a local school with Grade 7 or 8 girls 
* 'Game On', male volunteers 18-25 yrs facilitate a 7 week program at a local school with Grade 7 or 8 boys 
* 'After School Mentoring', volunteers assist children in after school group programs to improve literacy skills and assist with homework * operate out of the Barrie Municipal Non-Profit Housing Community rooms in different sites throughout the city 
Various fundraising events are held throughout the year that encourage community involvement * these include Bowl for Kids, Golf for Kids, Showcase of Homes, Curl for Kids
