Description
Description (Service) Program is intended to meet the needs of people with disabilities and help them to become more independent 
  • provides financial assistance to people with disabilities 
  • amount of benefit depends on size of family, shelter costs, income, and assets 
  • If an applicant does not receive a letter from the Disability Adjudication Unit (DAU) within 2-3 weeks of applying, stating that the application has been received; or if a letter of their decision is not received from the DAU within 8 weeks after the first letter, applicants can call the DAU at 1-888-256-6758 
  • To report Welfare (Ontario Works) or ODSP misuse or fraud call 1-800-394-7867

Public Comments
  • Since Jan 1 2017 Child support payments are now fully exempt from social assistance benefit calculations and clients are no longer required to pursue child support as a condition of eligibility for social assistance 
  • Family Benefits and Mother's Allowance programs no longer exist 
  • people needing social assistance, including sole support parents, must apply to Ontario Works (OW) 
  • residents of Springwater Twp and Oro-Medonte Twp who are applying for Ontario Disability Support Program must apply to Ministry of Community and Social Services, 425 West Street North, Unit 8, Orillia

  • resident of Ontario 
  • verified physical or mental disability that is expected to last a year or more 
  • disability must make it difficult for applicant to care for him/herself, go into the community or to work

  • Application form and interview as well as a disability and financial assessment 
  • those in immediate financial need should call directly to the Ontario Works office
