Description (Service) Environmental action group working to protect the future of Lake Simcoe
  • Goals of the Coalition are to:
    • Reduce the annual phosphorus loading to the lake to 44 tonnes by the year 2045
    • Increase environmental awareness and concern in the Lake Simcoe watershed
    • Increase public participation in activities which promote the health of the watershed
    • Encourage land use planning decisions and building techniques that will protect forests, wetlands, working farms, and Lake Simcoe
  • partnered with Environmental Defence, Ontario Nature, and local partners to launch the idea, and shepherd the passage of the Lake Simcoe Protection Act (2008) and Plan (2009)
  • focus on promoting dialogue between citizens and their governments around the lake
  • develop education programs, apply for funds for research and outreach activities
  • share knowledge and experiences between groups through AGMs, website, social media, and conference calls
