Description

Description (Service) A non profit organization with the objective to build a network of individuals and organizations in Grey and Bruce Counties, for the purpose of:
  • fostering the development of sustainable communities
  • fostering collaborative relationships that increase capacity to deliver environmental and community sustainability programs
  • researching, promoting and implementing solutions to local sustainability issues and responding to the pressures of climate change, peak oil, fossil fuel pricing, ecosystem degradation and our current economic instability
Current projects include:
  • Grey Bruce Sustainability Asset Map (GBSAM)
  • CareerWORKS (Food, Water, Energy, Health themes)
  • Experience Green Environmental Fairs (Owen sound and Bruce Power in 2012-13)
  • Hosting Social Enterprise Workshops
  • Ripples of Change Youth 4 Water Group hosting

Plan to develop a virtual communications hub that will function as an information clearinghouse to keep everyone with an interest in sustainability informed and linked.

Also plan to facilitate the creation of a regional report card that will give communities the ability to set sustainability goals and monitor their progress. The report card would propose a set of sustainability indicators that are relevant to Grey Bruce and would support development of an integrated community sustainability plan. Based on community input, an integrated community sustainability plan is a long term plan that provides direction to realize sustainability objectives across environmental, cultural, economic and social spheres.
