Description

Description (Service)

Provides safe, affordable, rent-geared-to-income housing for women and their children who have left abusive relationships in their own community, or in close proximity for up to one year.

The buildings contain units for the program with laundry facilities, fenced yard and parking. The buildings are equipped with a 24-hour security system. This program is offered in Kincardine, Port Elgin and Wiarton.

Provides life skills and counselling on helping with housing applications.

Eligibility Ages: 16 year(s) and up Any women who:
  • Is leaving an abusive partner, and is not planning to live with a partner (male or female); and
  • Is 16 years of age or older; and
  • Will agree and able to participate in the Second Stage Program while making plans and decisions about the next steps in their life; and
  • Is able to pay rent-geared-to-income; and
  • Is able and willing to live in a cooperative environment; and can live independently; and
  • Is in the need of a safe environment.
Application Call 1-800-265-3026 to receive a Second Stage Program Application and to connect with one of our Transition workers to arrange for an intake interview. At this time the Transition Worker will go over your completed application and assist you in filling in any areas of the application that we required more information.  
After your intake interview, if your application meets all of the necessary criteria, you will be contacted if more information is required on your finances to confirm if you are eligible for the program. You will receive a letter indicating if you are on the waiting list or not.  
When a program opening is available you will be contacted to see if you are still interested in the program and are still eligible. If you accept the program opening within the time limited required, you will be asked to set up a meeting with the Transition Worker to go over and sign the program offer and an Agreement to Participate in the Program.
