Volunteers can help complete the income tax and benefit return if income is low and tax situation is simple. Does not complete income tax and benefit returns for: bankrupt individuals * individuals who have capital gains or losses, employment expenses, or business or rental income and expenses. | Eligibility | Suggested maximum income used as a guideline only: Single individual – up to $35,000 Two-person family – up to $45,000 (combined income of a couple, or one adult with one child under 18) + add $2,500 for each additional dependent child in the family Volunteers do not prepare tax returns for complex situations such as: * individuals who file for bankruptcy; * self-employed individuals; * individuals who report capital gains or losses; or * individuals who report employment expenses, or business or rental income and expenses. Eligible taxpayers normally served by the CVITP include * Aboriginal peoples; * Low-income individuals and social assistance recipients; * Newcomers to Canada; * Seniors; and * Students |
