When Environment Canada issues an extreme heat or cold alert, rest areas are available to residents for relief from extreme weather conditions. These can include public buildings such as libraries or community centres during regular business hours. Other buildings such as malls or cinemas that have air conditioning/heating could also be used.

In Saugeen Shores, the following libraries may be accessed in extreme weather conditions.

• Southampton Library - 215 High St, Southampton - Tue, Thu, Fri, 10 am-5 pm, Wed 10 am-7:30 pm, Sat 10 am-4 pm (Summer hours vary - please visit library.brucecounty.on.ca/locations for details)

Under extreme circumstances, Saugeen Shores may open The Southampton Coliseum (6 Albert St S, Southampton) or The Plex (600 Tomlinson Dr, Port Elgin) during extreme heat or cold alerts. Notification of opening can be found on the municipal website, www.saugeenshores.ca or social media.
