Description

Description (Service) Program teaches people about bears to help prevent encounters, such as things the community can do to keep bears away from urban and semi urban areas and what to do in the event of a bear encounter.

Offers the Bear Wise Reporting Line:
  • available from Apr 1-Nov 30 for non-emergency encounters including: if a bear is roaming around checking garbage cans, breaking into a shed where garbage or food is stored, in a tree, pulling down a bird feeder or knocking over a barbecue, moving through a backyard or field but is not lingering
  • provides advice, education and information about bears
For assistance during other times, (Dec-Mar), or to report bears killed in defense of property, contact local District of Ministry of Natural Resources office. If you kill a bear to keep for personal use also contact Ministry as you must register for a Notice of Possession. In an immediate emergency, dial 9-1-1 for assistance.
