Description (Service)
Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Huron (BBBSSH) enables life-changing mentoring relationships to ignite the power and potential of young people. It is our vision that all young people realize their full potential. As a member agency of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada (BBBSC), volunteers are assisted in building friendships, which provide guidance and encouragement to the children they support.
Programs include:
  • Big/Little Traditional Mentoring - match screened and trained adults, 18 years of age and older with children in need, 6-18 years of age
  • Big/Little Cross Gender Mentoring - cross gender matching of female volunteers to male children
  • Couples for Kids Program - matches a couple with a Little Brother or Little Sister.
  • Big Family Program - allows a family to enjoy time together with a Little
  • In-School Mentoring (ISM) - one-to-one relationship to improve self-esteem and school interest for elementary school aged children who would benefit from the development of a supportive one-to-one relationship. Volunteers meet with a child one hour per week within the school setting for the duration of the school year
  • In-School Mentoring Co-op
  • Big Bunch Program - A group program for children in the agency, meeting once a week
  • Go Girls! Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds - a group mentoring program that provides adolescent girls with the information and support to make informed lifestyle choices while maintaining sensitivity toward their emotional, social and cultural issues.
  • Game On! Eat Smart, Play Smart - provides boys grades 5 to 8 with life skills, communication, and emotional health discussions, within a group setting in the school. Sessions are designed to engage participants in the pursuit of lifelong healthy lifestyles through physical activities, complemented with healthy eating support.
