Description

Description (Service) For individuals unable to complete their income tax and benefit return themselves and are unable to pay for assistance, the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) may be able to assist. Volunteers can help complete the income tax and benefit return if income is low and tax situation is simple.

Can prepare current and previous years' returns.

Eligibility These suggested maximum income levels should serve as a guideline only

Single individual - up to $35,000
Two-person family - up to $45,000 (combined income of a couple, or one adult with one child under 18)
+ add $2,500 for each additional dependent child in the family

Interest income limited to under $1,000

Local community organizations have the flexibility to adjust or set additional eligibility criteria for taxpayers based on the local economic environment, the population they serve, and their own capacity

Volunteers do not prepare tax returns for complex situations such as:
  • returns for deceased persons
  • individuals who file for bankruptcy
  • self-employed individuals
  • individuals who report capital gains or losses
  • individuals who report employment expenses, or business or rental income and expenses


Eligible taxpayers normally served by the CVITP include:
  • Indigenous peoples
  • Low-income individuals and social assistance recipients
  • Newcomers to Canada
  • Seniors
  • Students
Application Call and leave name and phone number. Catherine will arrange for individual to drop off required tax documents and sign a release at the Beaver Valley Outreach office.

Volunteer will follow up and do return over the phone. Once completed, the volunteer will submit the return online.

The volunteer will send a copy of the completed return and tax documents to the Beaver Valley Office. When it arrives, Catherine will contact the individual to arrange pick up.
