Description (Service) On Thursday May 19, 2022 a fire gutted the Hanover Inn (Forum) rooming house in downtown Hanover. Police have confirmed that there were no fatalities due to the fire. The Forum and the Fabulous Fashion building were destroyed and the buildings have been demolished for public safety reasons.

The United Way is facilitating support for all those affected by this fire. They ask that we go over this form with the caller. Please complete this form with every fire victim that calls. This is for all requests that are not emergency in nature.

The evacuation site that was set up at the P & H Centre was closed as of 4 pm Sunday May 22nd, but community partners continue to assist those affected by the fire.

SOS Outreach will be at Grace United Church from noon to 4 pm on Wednesday May 25th for further supports.

Food is being supported through the Salvation Army Hanover and the community response team.

  • To donate clothing, please do so at the The Salvation Army Hanover Thrift Store. They are located at 711 - 10th Avenue, Hanover. Their phone number is 519-506-3450.
  • To donate furniture / household items, contact the Hanover Restore. They are located at 1049 7th Avenue in Hanover. The phone number is 519-371-6776.
The United Way of Bruce Grey and community partners are actively working with both of these organizations to provide goods to those affected by this fire.

Funds may also be donated through the United Way of Bruce Grey to support basic needs and resettling costs for those directly affected by the fire. Donations are accepted online through Canada Helps at www.DonateToday.ca. E-transfers are accepted at manager@unitedwaybg.com (please specify Hanover Fire in the note as well as your name and phone number/email). An auto-deposit is in place so no password required.
