The Social Services division administers the Ontario Works (OW) program and Children's Services in Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton County. We also deliver homelessness prevention services in partnership with the City's Housing Help Centre. 
Ontario Works provides financial and employment assistance to people in need. Children's Services staff ensure that quality, stable and affordable childcare is available to residents of the City of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton County. 
Residents of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton County can seek the assistance of our Social Services division by visiting or contacting one of our offices, open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

Provides financial support for basic needs to eligible recipients. Eligibility and the amount of assistance is based on family size, income, assets and living arrangements. Other benefits may also be provided, including Ontario Drug Benefits coverage, Medical Transportation costs, Diabetic Supplies, Vision care for children and health-related discretionary benefits for adults. To apply for assistance, call 1-877-324-9870 ext. 4. 
Almost all recipients of financial support must participate in employment related activities. These can include job searching, educational opportunities, volunteering, training and/or job retention programs. There are also a number of financial supports to assist with participation costs. Individuals who are leaving assistance because of work can continue to receive a number of benefits, including the drug benefit card and other supports, for between 6 and 12 months after going off assistance.  
 
Children's Services:

Provides financial support for eligible applicants for child care services in a Ministry licensed child care program or private home and in an informal setting for recipients of Ontario Works under the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014. Agencies may also receive financial support through the General Operating fund. Financial supports to agencies may also be provided to support the inclusion of children with special needs.

Families with a child(ren) under the age of 13 who require licenced child care because they are working, attending school, in training or have a child with special needs may be eligible to receive financial assistance to pay for child care.

The Kawartha Lakes Children's Services division is committed to providing and promoting licensed child care services that enhance opportunities for early childhood development. EarlyON centres offer free drop-in programs for caregivers and children from birth to 6 years old. You can learn and play with your child, meet people or get advice.
