Description (Service) | For individuals unable to complete their income tax and benefit return themselves and are unable to pay for assistance, the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) may be able to assist. Volunteers can help complete the income tax and benefit return if income is low and tax situation is simple. Volunteers do not complete income tax and benefit returns for deceased persons, bankrupt individuals, or individuals who have capital gains or losses, employment expenses, or business or rental income and expenses. Current year, and past year returns. By appointment all year long. 2017 year begins March 13, 2018. Important: Volunteers do not give accounting advice. This clinic is providing the service of e-filing your income tax return for you, not making decisions on your behalf, or providing advice. This clinic is for basic income tax returns only. |

Eligibility | These suggested maximum income levels should serve as a guideline only. Single/couple Up to $28,000 households of 3 or 4 people up to $39,000 households of 5 people up to $48,000 etc Local community organizations have the flexibility to adjust or set additional eligibility criteria for taxpayers based on the local economic environment, the population they serve, and their own capacity. Volunteers do not prepare tax returns for complex situations such as: * returns for deceased persons; * individuals who file for bankruptcy; * self-employed individuals; * individuals who report capital gains or losses; or * individuals who report employment expenses, or business or rental income and expenses. Eligible taxpayers normally served by the CVITP include: * Low-income individuals and social assistance recipients; * Newcomers to Canada; * Seniors; and * Students. |
