Canadian Human Rights Commission:

  • administers the Canadian Human Rights Act
  • handles complaints (including sexual harassment) against organizations
  • carries out compliance audits of employers and service providers
  • helps ensure that everyone in Canada is treated fairly, no matter who they are
  • responsible for representing the public interest and holding the Government of Canada to account on matters related to human rights.
  • The Accessible Canada Act, the Employment Equity Act, and the Pay Equity Act give the Commission the authority to work with federally regulated employers to ensure they are preventing discrimination and promoting inclusion through proactive compliance with these laws

Eligibility Persons legally present in Canada or Canadian citizens and landed immigrants outside Canada.
To file a complaint, a person must have been discriminated against by a federally regulated organization. Ex. a federal government department, agency or crown corporation, chartered bank, national airline, inter-provincial transportation or shipping line, telecommunications company, certain mining industries, railway and others.
