Description (Service) COVID-19 Response
Most in-person Service Canada Centres are open, please visit our website at www.canada.ca to see if your local Service Canada office is open. Clients can apply for critical services online. Personal service support for EI and pension applications are available through e-service online and on mobile phones. Many online services available at Canada.ca/service-canada-home. For assistance accessing services, complete online request at Canada.ca/service-canada-e-service.

Regular Service
Temporary financial assistance and support in finding new employment. Able-bodied claimants must be seeking employment to remain eligible.

Family Supplement -- for low income families who receive the Canada Child Benefit (see separate entry). Entitlement will be added to EI payment.

Special benefits:
  • 15 weeks sickness benefits
  • Up to 35 weeks for family caregiver benefit for a critically ill or injured person under 18.
  • Up to 15 weeksfor Family caregiver benefit for a critically ill or injured person 18 or over.
  • Up to 26 weeks for compassionate care benefits for a person of any age who requires end-of-life care
  • 15 weeks maternity benefits
  • 35 weeks parental benefits available to natural, legal or adoptive parents -- benefits can be shared by both parents
  • claimants may be able to receive combination of special benefits up to 71 weeks total
Any claimant or former employer of a claimant who disagrees with a claim decision may appeal to a Board of Referees.
