Description

Description (Service) The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program offers free tax preparation services for individuals, families, seniors and persons with disabilities with moderate income. Volunteers complete the income tax and benefit returns if income is low and the tax situation is simple.

Areas Served Muskoka District
Eligibility Individuals, families, seniors and persons with disabilities and a resident of Muskoka District

Suggested maximum income levels should serve as a guideline only.

Family size and total family income:

1 person $35,000
2 persons $45,000
3 persons $47,500
4 persons $50,000
5 persons $52,500

More than 5 persons $52,500 plus $2,500 for each additional person

Volunteers do not prepare tax returns for complex situations such as:
  • returns for deceased persons
  • individuals who file for bankruptcy
  • self-employed individuals
  • individuals who report capital gains or losses
  • individuals who report employment expenses, or business or rental income and expenses

    Eligible taxpayers normally served by the CVITP include:
  • Indigenous peoples
  • Low-income individuals and social assistance recipients
  • Newcomers to Canada
  • Seniors
  • Students
