Eligibility | Workers: * Residing in Canada, who are at least 15 years old; * Who have stopped working because of reasons related to COVID-19 or are eligible for Employment Insurance regular or sickness benefits or have exhausted their Employment Insurance regular benefits between December 29, 2019 and October 3, 2020; * Who had employment and/or self-employment income of at least $5,000 in 2019 or in the 12 months prior to the date of their application; and, * Who have not quit their job voluntarily. When submitting your first claim, you cannot have earned more than $1,000 in employment and/or self-employment income for 14 or more consecutive days within the four-week benefit period of your claim. When submitting subsequent claims, you cannot have earned more than $1,000 in employment and/or self-employment income for the entire four-week benefit period of your new claim. Individuals receiving funds from the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSB) can receive the CERB if they qualify, but extra income must be reported and may affect amounts received. Application | Applications can be made through either Service Canada or the Canada Revenue Agency. Visit the website for information on whether someone should apply through Service Canada or through the Canada Revenue Agency. If the site says to apply through Service Canada, follow the steps to the application form or call 1-800-531-7555. To apply through CRA: apply through My CRA (go to the COVID-19: Canada Emergency Response Benefit in the alert banner at the top of the page) or by telephone at 1-800-959-2019 or 1-800-959-2041. Select a language preference (English or French) and follow the prompts to enter the information, including a social insurance number, confirmation of the postal code, the period they are applying for, and a declaration that the person qualifies for the benefit. Individuals born in January, February or March should apply on Mondays Individuals born in April, May, or June should apply on Tuesdays Individuals born in July, August, or September should apply on Wednesdays Individuals born in October, November, or December should apply on Thursdays Anyone can apply on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Those who have not already applied to employment insurance or CERB, find more information on the eligibility criteria and how to apply by contacting the automated telephone service at 1-833-966-2099. Those who have already applied to CERB through the employment insurance and want to ask additional questions can reach a Canada Emergency Response Benefit agent at 1-833-699-0299. People apply for payment for a period of four weeks. Then, people must go in to reapply for subsequent four-week payments for a maximum of 16 weeks if eligibility criteria allow.
