|Description (Service)||Providing both therapy and recreation, riding helps to improve balance and co-ordination * strength and muscle tone * helps mobilize joints * improves sensory processing * improves focus and concentration * improves the ability to learn concepts * helps improve social and communication skills * also self-confidence and self-esteem may develop or increase from the sense of accomplishment and empowerment riding can provide
Program can be tailored to many ability levels. Clients ride once per week for a minimum of 4 weeks.
The Horse Sanctuary’s riders include children and adults with autism * cerebral palsy * stroke * arthritis * learning disabilities * multiple sclerosis * alzheimer's * spinal cord injury * developmental delay and similar physical and cognitive disabilities
The Horse Sanctuary rescues, re-habilitates and re-homes horses at risk of neglect, abuse or slaughter. Many of these horses work in the therapeutic programs.
The Horse Sanctuary is a member of the Ontario Therapeutic Riding Association (OnTRA).
