Lawyers provide immediate legal assistance to low-income individuals who would otherwise be unrepresented and unassisted in the courtroom. Lawyers quickly assess a client’s legal situation and provide advice, information and representation. May include:
  • advice about legal rights, obligations and the court process 
  • assistance with diversion, guilty pleas and adjournments
Duty counsel is available in Provincial Court and Young Offender Court. See separate listing for duty counsel at Family Court 
Client Service Centre phone line also provides free information, referral and advice from a lawyer
