Description

Description (Service) COVID19: Continue in person services on case by case and by appointment only. Continuing virtual services by phone and video conference.

Works collaboratively with the New Canadians Centre (including the settlement workers in the schools), local schools, the community, and the Peterborough Youth Services Team (Enhanced Youth Outreach Worker (EYOW), Community Response Team (CRT) and the Clinical Counsellors).

Provides responsive, flexible and, easily accessible culturally sensitive crisis, practical and, mental health supports both at PYS and in the community.

These are some of the services the NCYOW can provide:
  • meet youth individually in the community or where it is most helpful (school, NCC, PYS etc.)
  • youth groups, both a girls' group and a boys' group with a focus on motivation, confidence, social and emotional wellbeing, belonging, integration, cultural stresses with an emphasis on personal goals and needs. This is done in an environment of fun, laughter, and creativity.
  • woman's group to support relationships with children and to create a support network to help with cultural transitions. This is done through group discussions with a focus on self-care.
  • phone or face to face parent support.
  • support school staff working with New Canadian students. This can be advice or a direct referral for service for youth.
  • both make referrals and receive referrals from other community partner agencies.
