Description (Service) | COVID19 Although office is open, clients are asked to call their caseworker. * Additional assistance for those currently receiving social assistance, who are facing additional costs related to the COVID-19 outbreak. Funding can be used to meet a broad range of needs such as cleaning supplies, transportation, food or clothing that individuals and families may require due to COVID-19 * ODSP recipients can access emergency benefits by calling their caseworker. * Emergency benefits: up to $100 for single individuals and up to $200 for families. ODSP provides income and employment supports to people who have a substantial physical or mental impairment that is documented by a Health professional. A financial assessment will also be made to assess eligibility. For Income Support the amount of the benefit will depend on the size of the family, age of dependent children/adults, shelter costs and availability and receipt of income, special diet. Other benefits include: prescription drugs, dental services, eyeglasses, hearing aids and special medical necessities. ODSP Employment Supports helps persons with disabilities to find a job, advance to another job if under employed, overcome a disability-related job crisis to maintain employment and retain long-term employment. |

Eligibility | For Income Support a person must be 18 years of age or older, be financially eligible, be a resident of Ontario, have a verified physical or mental disability that is expected to last a year of more and the disability must make it difficult for self care , participate in community life or to work. For Employment Supports a person must be 16 years of age or older, be a resident of Ontario, have a physical or mental impairment; other eligibility considerations to be verified by the Caseworker |
Application | Applications for Income Support must be completed with a caseworker or may be completed on-line by logging to the ministry website, under Social Assistance. Applications for Employment Supports must be completed and returned to the local office for determination of eligibility. New Online Application Available for Peterborough residents! People residing in Peterborough city or county can now apply online at www.ontario.ca/socialassistance. The online service allows application for and/or determines eligibility for three social assistance programs: - Ontario Works - Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) - Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities (ACSD). There is a screening section that allows potential applicants to determine their eligibility before they start the application. There is also an appointment scheduling feature that allows applicants to suggest dates and times for their verification interviews. Applicants can still choose to apply in person or by phone. |
