Service: Extra Judicial Sanctions Program
|Record #: VTC0218||Last Modified: 16 Jun 2020||Last Full Update: 16 Jun 2020|
|Description (Service)||An Extrajudicial Sanction is the most formal non-court response, ordered by the Court. A charge is stayed for one year while the young offender demonstrates accountability for their offence. The Extrajudicial Sanctions Program partners with the City of Kawartha Lake’s Youth Crown’s Office and Youth Justice Committee (YJC), to assist youth through a diversion program as an alternative to the formal court process.
The youth are referred by the Youth Justice Committee or directly through the Crown’s Office to the John Howard Society’s Youth Intervention Centre. A youth facilitator works with the young person in regards to their specific sanctions to help him/her take responsibility for the offence, understand its impact and help repair harm.
Individual sessions are voluntary and offered as five 1-hour psycho-educational sessions in the following areas:
• Anger and Aggression Awareness, Substance Involvement, Property Crime Prevention, Healthy Relationships
