Description

Description (Service) The Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) is designed to meet the unique needs of people with disabilities who are in financial need, or who want and are able to work and need support.

The program has two components:
  • Income Support: provides financial assistance and other benefits to eligible people with disabilities and their families. This includes accommodation and basic living expenses, as well as prescription drugs, basic dental care and other supports.
  • ODSP Employment Support: Community based service providers deliver the ODSP Employment Support program to help people with disabilities prepare for and find jobs, keep a job and advance their career. The program can also help people with disabilities become self-employed.

Eligibility Under the ODSP Income Support program people over the age of 18 that meet the following criteria for disability may be eligible: substantial physical or mental impairment that is continuous or recurrent and expected to last one year or more which affects ability to attend to personal care and/or function in the community or workplace. Financial eligibility must be established prior to the medical determination.

Under the ODSP Employment Supports program, a recipient of ODSP Income Support, or a person with a disability that has been verified by a medical professional may be eligible.
The applicant must be a resident of Ontario.
Application Applicants for the Income Support program must fill out a Disability Determination Package which can be obtained at local ODSP or Ontario Works offices after a meeting with the Income Support Specialist/Caseworker to determine financial eligibility.
Forms must be filled out by the applicant and his/her doctor.
Applications must be filled out and returned no later than 90 days after receiving the package.
