DutiesVision Mate volunteers provide one-on-one sighted assistance and companionship for one or two hours per week for a person who is blind or partially sighted * approved activities: reading, organizing, walking, assisting with errands and/or outings, social visiting * volunteers complete an interview, orientation and training * two character references and a police record check with a vulnerable sector check required

ClientsClients are blind or partially sighted and have asked for assistance from a sighted volunteer to help achieve their goals. Most clients are seniors.

Skills/Experience1. Experience working with people with disabilities and/or interest in learning how to work with people with disabilities  
2. Passion for helping people with vision loss gain independence and participate fully in life.  
3. Must be reliable, patient, responsible and friendly.  
4. Must be able to provide a thorough background check including a Clear Police Record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check.  
5. Must be 19 or older.
Commitment LengthMedium Term (4 months to 1 year) ; minimum 6 month commitment
