|Duties||Vision Mate volunteers provide one-on-one sighted assistance and companionship for one or two hours per week for a person who is blind or partially sighted * approved activities: reading, organizing, walking, assisting with errands and/or outings, social visiting * volunteers complete an interview, orientation and training * two character references and a police record check with a vulnerable sector check required|

|Clients||Clients are blind or partially sighted and have asked for assistance from a sighted volunteer to help achieve their goals. Most clients are seniors.|

|Skills/Experience||1. Experience working with people with disabilities and/or interest in learning how to work with people with disabilities |
2. Passion for helping people with vision loss gain independence and participate fully in life.
3. Must be reliable, patient, responsible and friendly.
4. Must be able to provide a thorough background check including a Clear Police Record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check.
5. Must be 19 or older.

Days and times arranged between the volunteer and the individual they will be supporting. Note: most seniors appreciate afternoon visits.
