Duties•Research which plants are appropriate to the time(s) and place(s) on display in the village 
•Research where to obtain plants or seeds and when to plant them 
•Maintain the gardens during the growing season 
•Provide interpretive material such as signage and/or manuals for other staff and visitors 
•Offer interpretive tours of the gardens during the summer months 
•Prepare gardens for winter

BenefitsHeritage Gardeners will enjoy researching historical plants, and learning about them and their uses, as well as their relationships to today’s garden plants. They will see the results of their work as the plants grow and flower. They will make Grey Roots more beautiful and alive. They will share very interesting, special information with other staff and visitors. Upon completion of 20 hours of service annually, they and a guest may visit Grey Roots free of charge. They will receive a quarterly volunteer newsletter, discounts in the gift shop, insurance coverage while on duty and an annual recognition event. Training and orientation is provided.
ClientsThese volunteers will have a high level of interaction with thousands of visitors over the course of the summer.
