Kawartha Komets Special Needs Hockey Program provides girls and boys, teens and adults with physical, emotional and/or neurodevelopmental challenges an opportunity to play hockey.

Duties

Mature Adult Volunteers will assist players on the ice, supporting our Qualified, Certified coaching staff.

  • A stipend for expenses such as gas when travelling to out of town games if you do not have a player attending, as well as hotel, gas and food expenses to attend our annual out of town tournament( (if funds are available)

  • Provide Player Support Plans filled out by parents/caregivers to help volunteers support the players with useful strategies

  • Looking for volunteers who may have some experience working with players with physical, emotional and/or neurodevelopmental challenges.
  • Looking for individuals who have taught skating or hockey skills
Commitment Length Medium Term (4 months to 1 year) ; Season by season (seasons run from mid-October to March 31)
Interaction Level One-on-one - some 1 on 1 on Junior (Saturns) team ; Small Group - 12-14 Junior Team (Saturns) team

Training Training is provided ; Training on the job ; Prefer that coaches & trainers have their certification but willing to provide financial reimbursement for certification of Coaches and Trainers, Standard First Aid and for Criminal Reference checks with Vulnerable Sector component, provided we are given the receipts and the Certificates of Completion.

Additional Requirements Willingness to complete two mandatory online courses:
  • Gender Identity Expression and Respect in Sport
  • Gender Identity Expression is free and we reimburse you for taking Respect in Sport which is $33.90 providing we are given the receipt and Certificate of Completion
