Friends of the Centennial Museum is a group of volunteers that meet once a month to discuss and arrange special events, meant to raise funds for the museum's capital projects. As a Friend, you would attend monthly meetings, help out with special events, and may take on responsibilities for specific duties - ie. advertising, concession stand, etc. 
 
Friends duties are voluntary. Friends have a choice about which duties they would like to take on.

Museum Volunteer- Our museum collection continues to grow and The Craigleith Heritage Depot requires assistance in maintaining and researching artifacts. This volunteer would assist in photography, organization, research and creating finding aids.  
 
The collections volunteer will assist with all or some of these tasks 
• creating on a computer finding aids for subjects  
• photographing or scanning artifacts  
• working on special programmes related to research/geneology/history 
• researching artifacts 
 
The collections volunteer will be provided training on the existing resources and how to use databases and on-line resources. We seek a bi-weekly or weekly commitment of a minimum of 2-3 hours Wednesday afternoon/evening.

The Museum Friends host and assist with activities and events throughout the year at the Huron County Museum & Historic Gaol. Events include Museum Haunted Main Street at Halloween and various activities on Family Day in February. Volunteers also assist with visitor services, special events, group tours, artifact work, holiday decorating, and temporary exhibits & events.

Camp Trillium offers free residential and day camps in various communities throughout Ontario for children and their families living with childhood cancer. Volunteers are needed to supervise small groups of children at camp and ensure camper and personal safety. Volunteers will also develop supportive relationships with campers and participate in camp activities such as swimming, arts and crafts and campfires.

The Costuming Department Volunteer supports Lang Pioneer Village Museum by assisting with the creation and repair of historically accurate costumes and accessories for the village’s staff and volunteer interpreters. 
 
Key Responsibilities:  
* Undertake repairs on all aspects of costuming 
* Assist costumer in the creation of and finishing work on costumes 
* Under the direction and at the discretion of the costume designer, the costuming department volunteer may elect to undertake individual projects 
* May occasionally involve the laundering and organization of costumes and light housecleaning duties

Volunteers will be working mainly with dogs and cats. They will be cleaning cages, feeding and watering the animals as well as giving the animals exercise. Volunteers will also be doing basic office duties. 
 
Volunteers can also help out with special events (fundraising events that take place throughout the year). These events include Golf Tournament, Animals R Us Festival, Pooch Patrol Walk-a-Thon, Open houses, Dog Baths, Adopt-a-Thons, selling raffle tickets, Make a Pet's Life Glow etc.

The Historical Gardener Volunteer supports Lang Pioneer Village Museum by assisting in the creation and maintenance of historically accurate gardens within the village. The Historical Gardener Volunteer also enhances the visitor’s experience by sharing their knowledge and love of gardening with visitors. 
 
Key Responsibilities:  
* Tend to historical gardens by performing gardening tasks such as cultivating soil, planting by seed and seedling, hoeing, and weeding gardens, carrying water, picking berries and vegetables and cutting grass. 
* If tending gardens during hours Lang is open to the public, Historical Gardener Volunteers wear a period costume and provide historical interpretation of gardens to the general public 
* Research 19th-century gardening practices and plant varieties

The Interpretation Volunteer supports Lang Pioneer Village Museum by learning and interpreting early 19th-century rural Ontario lifestyles to visitors. Costumed interpreter enact daily living within the village and demonstrate historic trades or crafts. Interpreters may specialize in the history and activities of a particular building or trade or craft and in this way bring an expertise to the work that they do within the village. Volunteers interpret during regular days in the village, at special events, and for school tours. 
 
Key Responsibilities:  
* Learn historical information relating to placement within the village. 
* Interpret daily living in a 19th-century rural Ontario community. 
* Demonstrate historic trades or crafts. 
* Teach history in an informal, peaceful setting to the public. 
* Wear a period costume and be responsible for care and general cleaning of assigned costume. 
* Provide excellent customer service to visitors.

The Special Event Volunteer is essential for the production of Lang Pioneer Village Museum’s special events. Lang Pioneer Village organizes over ten special events per season.  
 
Key Responsibilities:  
* Assist in staging special events i.e. help set up before and clean up after special events; directing visitors in parking area, taking admissions at admission gate, electrical and/or PA set-up, maintenance of fires in woodstoves, etc. 
* Organize preparations prior to events. i.e. collecting and preparing craft materials, creating props for games, etc.  
* Assist with activities at special events. For example, you might assist with craft activities, lead a sack race, prepare corn for a corn roast, sell apple cider, etc. In some cases this may involve wearing a period costume. 
* Work with visitors of all ages, while creating a festive and fun atmosphere 
* Performs the duties of a historical interpreter on a relief basis.
