Huronia Restorative Justice Project
FACE Office is at 317 Midland Ave, Midland, ON; various locations (if required)
Trained volunteers facilitate community justice circles between victims and their offenders. The facilitator, along with a co-facilitator, will receive a case referral with all pertinent information. Cases may be referred from youth criminal court or adult criminal court, by the police. Cases may also be referred by a school. A FACE facilitator will then set up an interview time with the victim to discuss the procedures, answer any questions, and find out who they will be bringing for support. The same is done with the offender. A date is set and then the circle is prepared. Everyone attending the circle gives their input into designing an agreement for the offender to follow. A member of the circle offers to track the agreement and its completion. In many cases, if the agreement is fulfilled, the court may decide that criminal charges will be dropped. Victims have a chance to share their feelings and impact of the incident, which is often not possible in court. Offenders hear the impact their choices made firsthand. All parties end up with a better understanding of the incident, and of each other.
Canadian Blood Services, Barrie Area Office, Blood Donor Clinic
Varies
Canadian Blood Services holds monthly community blood donor clinics in Midland and particpates within the community at events and organizations to raise the awareness for the need for blood products and donors.

In Clinic Volunteers:
Customer care and service are vitally important to supporting Canada’s blood system — especially during the donation process.

Greeting donors with a smile, making conversation, and accompanying and encouraging them throughout the donation process helps them feel welcome and comfortable. The care and attention you give is very often a key reason why donors return. As one of the last faces donors see on their way out, you play a critical role in the success of future blood donor clinics.

In Community Volunteers:
If you’d like a volunteer opportunity that offers a flexible schedule and involves participating in community events with a focus on recruiting new donors and promoting upcoming clinics, an in-community role may be right for you. In-community volunteering is a great chance to meet people by working with different groups and raising awareness of the importance of donating blood.

The application for volunteering is available on the website and it is most efficient to complete that and allow the volunteer coordinator to contact you.

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED:

1. Become a Board Member: Board volunteers provide the vision, organizational skills and connections required to build and maintain effective chapters and units. Volunteer boards of directors oversee all aspects of chapters and units within their communities. Board experience is not a requirement as support and training is available from both the local chapter/unit board and Ontario Division. You may be right for the board of directors if you would like to develop or use your skills in leadership in a role involving the planning and development of an organization.

2. Programs & Services: As a programs & services volunteer you could enable people affected by MS and enhance their quality of life. Here are some of the ways client services volunteers touch the lives of those with MS:
• being a support group facilitator
• connecting people with the services they need in their community

• MS Carnation Campaign on the second weekend in May. Interested volunteers could become a committee member (meetings are typically held in the months preceding the campaign - Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr) or help sell carnations or volunteer on the day of the event (i.e. delivering flowers, etc).

• Barrie Half Marathon (Heritage Park) scheduled for Sunday June 5, 2016. Volunteer the day of the event with set up, handing out water at designated check points, etc.
