Volunteer duties vary depending on the role and will be discussed prior to an interview. Please call or email us first to inquire about which programs curently need volunteers, as some programs may be fully equipped with volunteers, and volunteer needs are constantly shifting.

Current opportunities:

• One-on-one Client Support - volunteers needed for Orillia, Midland and Collingwood

• Good Food Box – the second Wednesday of the month, unloading the produce truck, sorting and packing food boxes, volunteer delivery drivers, variety of shifts available – Barrie 

• Cooking Classes with the Urban Pantry program – Barrie 

• Assembling Harm Reduction Kits – once a month on the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 9 am - 1 pm – Barrie 

• Client and Family Advisory Committee members - open to clients or family member/caregiver in the past 3 years 

We need volunteers to assist at our Cycle For Hope fundraiser, we have a number of volunteer positions that need to be filled: 

Volunteer Roles: 

1. Set-up and tear down

Role Duties

• Help set up the event site
• Put up tables, tents and banners
• Clean up and put everything away once the ride is complete 

2. Registration

Role Duties

• Welcome and register the rider
• Provide rider with appropriate wristband and instruct them to place it on and that it will be used as their lunch voucher after their ride.

3. Route Directions/Nutrition Station

Role Duties:

• Ensure that riders are on the right track and making correct turns
• As Riders approach you, either point or vocalize where they are going and cheer them on!
• Offer fruit and waters that is available for Riders
• When the ride is complete on your way back - do a quick sweep of any riders along the way

Assist staff to deliver various programs such as crafts, bingo, outings and trips for adults with diverse disabilities. We offer a hybrid approach that involves both in-person programs at our Centre and virtual programs.

Volunteers tasks:
• Telephone check-ins with our Consumers
• Accompny consumers at programs at the Centre
• Organizational/administrative assistance for our Connecting with Seniors program
• Opportunity to do crafting or recipe videos for our social media outlets
• Other opportunities

• Manage customer inquiries
• Submit order to supplier- 1 week in advance by text message with location and number of boxes
• Ensure only boxes that have been paid for or a token has been received are ordered
• Remind customers of order deadlines 1 week prior to pick up date and pick-up date and time
• Coordinate volunteer packers for delivery day
• Manage the set up of tables to sort and pack produce into boxes, clean up the host site, and disposal of cardboard
• Greet customers and record as boxes are picked up, take any pre-orders for the following month, and record accordingly
• Complete monthly reports and bank deposit/cheque-send report, bank deposit receipt or cheque, any tokens received, and a copy of supplier invoice to United Way by both mail and send a copy/photo by email to food@unitedwaybg.com
• Keep records of orders, pre-orders, and token use
• Promote the program within the community (social media, word of mouth)
• Availability to be on site for delivery day
• Some lifting may be required of produce on delivery day to unload the truck

*Hanover is also in need of a new location (publically accessible building) to run the program.

Space Requirements:

·       Access for delivery truck

·       Ramps for easy entry

·       Open area to pack boxes

·       Access for customers to pick up packed boxes

• Work with a team of volunteers to sort fruits and vegetables into individual orders
• Handle food gently and hygienically, and arrange the boxes for maximum appeal
• Assist with packing site set-up and clean-up

• Running art or music programs 
• Assistance with organizing the set up and tear down of recreation activities
• Technology assistance for seniors 
• Information or educational seminars for seniors 
• Organizing tea and talk socials and word games

• Follow organization policies and procedures
• Complete activities assigned

• Attending activities, programs, and/or events with residents
• One-on-one visits with residents; spending time chatting, playing card games, doing puzzles, crafts
• Accompanying them on walks either within the building or outdoors (weather permitting)

Assisting persons with a new spinal cord injury by offering hope and encouragement through shared personal experiences.

Join as a general member of the committee.

• Advocate for policies, services and structures that enable people of all ages to benefit from an active, independent and meaningful life
• Learn what makes a community age-friendly
• Attend monthly meetings, participate in important planning discussions and decision making
• Potentially: Engage in a sub-group initiative (such as the Annual Expo/Event Planning, Work Plan development or other such projects).
• This volunteer position is most suitable for someone with knowledge and interest in  local issues and opportunities affecting older adults
• We welcome skills associated with fundraising, community development, event planning or strategic planning
• Use your experience, skills and knowledge to make meaningful change happen 
• Collaborate with community partners to make Orillia age-friendly
• Learn something new: Age-Friendly is a world-wide movement
• Participate in stimulating discussions

A Volunteer House Legaue Coach supports a fun, inclusive, and positive soccer experience for players of all skill levels. The coach focuses on player development (led by our technical director), teamwork, sportsmanship, and creating a safe, enjoyable environment on and off the field. Commitment level is minimum 1-hour, 1x per week, but can increase based on the volunteers preference.    Roles: 

• Run weekly practices (provided by BSC) using age‑appropriate drills that develop basic skills such as passing, shooting, dribbling, and teamwork.
• Coach games by organizing lineups, ensuring fair playing time, and guiding players with encouragement and positive instruction.
• Model positive behaviour by promoting respect, sportsmanship, and fair play at all times.
• Ensure player safety by following club policies, monitoring equipment, and responding appropriately to injuries or incidents.
• Collaborate with other coaches and volunteers to support smooth game days, set up fields, and manage team logistics.
