Since 1979, CONTACT Community Services has been listening to community needs and responding accordingly. CONTACT is a multifaceted social service agency and registered charity. Our mission is to be a proactive leader in South Simcoe providing responsive services in housing, employment and community support.

Today, our services are in high demand. Vulnerable individuals and families in Simcoe County are facing enormous pressures.  Now, more than ever, it is critical CONTACT be well positioned to continue to meet the ever-changing needs of our rapidly growing communities. CONTACT has recently launched a rapid-rehousing project in Collingwood that supports unhoused seniors transition into long-term, permanent housing. We are seeking a Secretary who is part of the Collinwood community.

CONTACT Community Services is actively recruiting a Secretary Board Member with administrative experience from the Collingwood area to join our Board of Directors. The Board is a governance board, focused on oversight of the organization and its sustainability and relevance to the community.

We are looking for a resourceful, energetic individual who believes in our mission, is from the Collingwood community and who is willing to be active in their governance roles and in their role as secretary.

In addition to the Board Member Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the Secretary is responsible for:

  • Planning and convening board meetings (including executive committee meetings)
  • Preparing and distributing meeting agendas and materials
  • Ensuring accurate recording of meeting minutes
  • Maintain a record of board meeting decisions and actions
  • Ensuring compliance with laws, regulations and governance standards
  • Staying updated on changes in governance requirements
  • Maintaining records of board member terms, assisting in orientation for new board members and maintain records of board membership
  • Maintaining supporting documentation for governance processes and all meetings

The Board of Directors is responsible for the organization's financial well-being and accountability as well as ensuring that our activities are consistent with our mission.  The operations of the organization is the responsibility of the Executive Director.

Board Commitment:
The Board meets at least eight times a year over Teams and generally takes the summer months off (as well as December, although this fluctuates based on need). Board Members are expected to participate in occasional activities such as fundraisers, board subcommittees (when required), and participation in email discussions (only when in-person or virtual discussion is not possible).

Meetings are held virtually, ensuring accessibility for all Board members located throughout a large region. Board meetings are often not more than one hour in length, given members are expected to have reviewed the Board report beforehand.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To uphold resolutely the interest of CONTACT Community Services, avoiding conflicts of interest in personal or other business.
  • To maintain the confidentiality of restricted Board information.
  • To be open to serving as an active member on at least one board appointed committee (if possible).
  • To attend Board and committee meetings on a regular and timely basis, with a full understanding of the agenda and accompanying package. All materials are circulated in advance to allow for ample time for member review. The ED encourages any member to reach out for clarification prior to the meeting to help support efficiency at the meetings.
  • To conduct Board business in a businesslike manner.
  • To be an active participant in all Board issues, providing a positive influence; open to change and creative problem solving.
  • To interact with all other Board members with respect and dignity.

Skills and Abilities of Individual Board Members:

  • Experience in the field or lived experience related to the organization’s mission and purpose.
  • Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of board governance: policy, finance, programs, legal, personnel, and advocacy.
  • Experience with strategic planning and organizational development.
  • History and knowledge of the Collingwood community.
  • Experience with communications, branding and/or philanthropy.

Other Important Considerations for Context:

  • The organization works collaboratively with numerous stakeholders, including, but not exclusive to: municipalities, housing services providers (including shelters, VAW shelters, transitional housing), mental health services, and multiple funders (County of Simcoe, provincial and federal government, etc), other social service supports (Ontario WORKS, ODSP, food banks).

Overview: Treasure Tails retail store is part of the Georgian Triangle Humane Society and raises money by selling high quality home décor, women’s apparel, collectables, antiques and more, generously donated by our community. All profits from sales go directly to supporting the Animal Centre and historically Treasure Tails has been one of the GTHS’ largest fundraisers.

Position Summary: As a Treasure Tails Volunteer, you will ultimately report to the Store Manager, however, your regular ‘supervisor’ will be the volunteer who oversees our Jewellery Team. Based on your field of expertise or area of interest, you will be involved in the identification, sorting, cleaning, carding and/or pricing of jewellery (including watches).

This position entails volunteering from home and local pick-up / drop-off / sorting of jewellery, as required.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include:

  • Liaising with Jewellery Team 'supervisor'

This is a remote volunteer position supporting the Guelph-Wellington Community. All shifts and training are completed remotely, therefore, residence in Guelph-Wellington is not a requirement for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete outbound and outbound calls with service users residing in the county

Community Connection

You can help reduce social isolation in the community by helping to maintain a calendar of activities for older adults. All you need is a phone, a computer with internet access and a little time. 

What you will be doing:

  • Monitoring websites and social media accounts of community centres, senior centres and libraries for public activities appropriate for older adults. 
  • Ocassionally calling organizations that offer social activities for older adults to get accurate information about their offerings.
  • Entering these events on a Google calendar that is posted on our website for public viewing.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss (PAIL) Network

Pregnancy and Infant Loss (PAIL) Network provides bereavement support at no cost to families who have experienced the loss of a pregnancy at any stage, or the death of their baby, up to 12 months of age. We are actively training peer supporters for private online bereavement support groups and one-to-one phone support.

Kids Help Phone, Crisis Text Line

Kids Help Phone’s texting service is the only free, 24/7 bilingual text line for people in Canada. The service is delivered by trained, volunteer crisis responders who work remotely. 

We are recruiting overnight and or bilingual crisis responders who will answer texts from young people looking for support in both English AND French.

The volunteer position will be remote, meaning that you can participate from anywhere in Canada as long you have a strong, reliable internet connection!  

Our volunteers need to be enthusiastic about helping people!

You can be a professional, student, teacher, retiree, or anybody else with a willingness to learn how to support people over text.  

The role of a crisis responder is to bring texters from a “hot” moment to a cool calm one, and to help them come up with a plan to stay healthy and safe.

Crisis responders are trained to do this using active listening and collaborative problem-solving.

A Peer Mentor has a wealth of experience and knowledge which can help another caregiver with the challenges of their caregiving situation. Caregivers share a common identity and can create a bond through sharing their experiences. You can easily connect by phone or by online/virtual discussion with your Caregiver Participant without leaving your home. An OCO trained peer mentor will:

    Purpose of the Position: Join the team to change the lives of people with disabilities and youth who are experiencing challenges by providing a loving home and obedience training to a Service Dog-in-training during its puppyhood. 
     
    Responsibilities and Duties: 
     
    - Raise a confident and responsive puppy. 
    - Care for the dog’s needs according to guidelines from COPE. 
    - Provide consistent structure, rules and boundaries to the dog according to training from COPE. 
    - Provide obedience training and socialization to the dog. 
    - Transport the dog to and from its training programs: Canines in the Classroom (Innisfil) or Refinement Training (Barrie). Multiple pick up/drop off locations in Barrie and Innisfil by COPE van is available. 
    - Support from Puppy Sitter Volunteer network is available for vacations or emergencies. 
    - Dog food, routine veterinary care, one dog crate, walking harness and leash are provided by COPE.

    Position Summary: Donor Engagement Volunteers report to the Senior Manager of Philanthropy (or delegate) to gain guidance in fostering positive relationships with donors. by contacting them upon becoming a regular donor or after donating to a ‘signature’ event or campaign. These volunteers will contact identified regular donors or signature event donors and may participate in regular Donor Relations Team meetings to collaborate on ideas that will enhance the relationships that leadership and legacy donors have with the GTHS, to inspire higher levels of giving.

    Volunteers would be required to provide support to individuals on a helpline or chat service who have experienced sexual trauma, violence and or assault. A 30 hour training course and interview is to be completed before starting on the helpline and chat service.

    Volunteers will be responsable for meeting with a clients weekly or bi-weekly to add enrichment to peoples lives. Clients are blind or have vision loss to some degree, which often requires adpaments to life. Volunteers are required to socialse with them and add normal contact back in their lives after the effects of the pandemic. They can go for walks, visit community gardens, really anything the pair would enjoy. The requirement are up to the two people who are paired.
