This is a remote volunteer position supporting the Guelph-Wellington Community. All shifts and training are completed remotely, therefore, residence in Guelph-Wellington is not a requirement for this position.
 
Compass is recruiting skilled and compassionate volunteers to join our Telephone Support Team (TSP). Volunteers involved in the TSP will assume the responsibility of providing outbound calls to clients, with the goal of providing emotional support to members of the Guelph-Wellington Community. TSP Volunteers will start in the program by completing social calls, safety/wellness checks, and/or providing medication reminders to isolated and distressed individuals before having the option to gain additional training and supporting our Distress Lines.

Callers on the Distress Line may be in a state of crisis, experiencing suicidal ideation, or have intentions of harming themselves or another individual. They may also be seeking external resources and referrals to agencies or are looking for a safe space to disclose personal struggles. Volunteers will use their discretion to identify how each client should be supported and will have access to staff supervision should any questions or concerns arise.

The Telephone Support team strives to meet the diverse needs of each client allowing opportunities to engage in conversations surrounding daily plans, storytelling, and exploring action plans to prepare for crisis intervention. Each call is made using a strengths-based and solution-focused approach with the common objective of assisting with goal planning, increasing the client’s ability to cope with unique situations, and referrals to community resources.

Responsibilities

•    Complete inbound and outbound calls with service users
•    Complete safety/wellness checks, provide medication reminders, and engage in social conversations with a diverse group of people
•    Assist with crisis intervention, when presented
•    Engage in conversations with members of the LGBTQ+ community through the texting support line
•    Utilize a strengths-based, solution-focused approach
•    Provide external resources and referrals to service users 
•    Complete case documentation of all interactions with service users

Peer Support Duties:

  • Provide direct peer support to families 
  • Communicate issues or challenges with Family Partnership Program Manager as they arise
  • Communicate periodically with families through the peer support offered and/or through a distribution list (eg. email, newsletter, or mail) as necessary 

Administrative Duties:

  • Communicate with PCMH through email, phone, virtual and in-person meetings 
  • Ensure chapter email and telephone line are checked at a minimum every 4 days
  • Attend monthly Town Halls and support resource creation by sharing your experiences and knowledge 
  • Participate in training opportunities 
  • Complete monthly data surveys, and respond to requests for information to inform PCMH programming and support initiatives better
Defeat Depression

The Defeat Depression campaign is a national fundraising campaign designed to allow individuals and organizations to raise funds in support of their local mental health programs and services. The campaign has grown into a national movement bringing much-needed funds, awareness of mental health issues while fighting mental health stigma one event at a time. 
The 2022 Defeat Depression Walks will take place the last weekend of May 2022. 
Planning and organizing the Walk/Runs takes time, passion and creative thinking. With support from volunteers and Mood Disorders Society of Canada’s staff, you will be a part of something truly extraordinary in your community.

Topics to be considered (but are not limited to) are Finance and Budgeting, Goal Setting, Time Management, Meal Planning on a Budget, Stress Management, and Importance of a Healthy Work/Life Balance. Working collaboratively with the Program Manager and Health & Wellness Coordinator, the Workshop Facilitator will work toward the following, as a volunteer:

COPE Service Dogs
Barrie
Purpose of the Position: Join the team to change the lives of people with disabilities and youth who are experiencing challenges by providing a loving home and obedience training to a Service Dog-in-training during its puppyhood. 
 
Responsibilities and Duties: 
 
- Raise a confident and responsive puppy. 
- Care for the dog’s needs according to guidelines from COPE. 
- Provide consistent structure, rules and boundaries to the dog according to training from COPE. 
- Provide obedience training and socialization to the dog. 
- Transport the dog to and from its training programs: Canines in the Classroom (Innisfil) or Refinement Training (Barrie). Multiple pick up/drop off locations in Barrie and Innisfil by COPE van is available. 
- Support from Puppy Sitter Volunteer network is available for vacations or emergencies. 
- Dog food, routine veterinary care, one dog crate, walking harness and leash are provided by COPE. 
 
NOTE: 
The application process takes time and training space is limited, please submit your application now to allow enough time to set up a home interview and ensure a training spot is reserved for you upon the approval of your application. 
 
COVID Protocol: 
Interviews are done by phone and via web conferencing software. Training are done virtually with in-person portion with dogs in open air locations, no physical contact and keeping proper physical distance when provincial guidelines allow us to do so.

Our Adult Day Programs (ADPs) provide social, recreational and therapeutic activities for seniors, individuals with a disability, Alzheimer's disease or other dementia in a safe and supervised environment. Activities are designed to be accessible to each participant by focusing on their abilities, not their disabilities. Activities could include exercise classes, cards and games, art and crafts, music and cooking. Program runs Monday to Friday 9am-3pm. Volunteers come in during a planned timeslot to assist with the programs and visit with the clients. 

Muskoka Parry Sound Sexual Assault Services

Volunteers would be required to provide support to individuals on a helpline or chat service who have experienced sexual trauma, violence and or assault. A 30 hour training course and interview is to be completed before starting on the helpline and chat service.

Your role is to offer one-on-one accepting, non-judgmental listening presence at one of our partner sites throughout the community. Shifts are 1.5 - 2 hours long. We have spaces at some of our partner sites such as Downtown Library, Painswick Library, Busby Centre, Elizabeth Fry Society, Breakfast to Go, Lucy's Place, CMHA, or seniors residences.

Victorian Order of Nurses - Perth-Huron Branch

Be a walking companion for someone living with dementia. Provide support, friendship during regularly scheduled walks.

The objective of the program is to provide mobile individuals diagnosed with Dementia, such as Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) who are living independently in the community with activity and companionship.

Kids Help Phone, Crisis Text Line

This is a one day volunteer event on Sunday, May 7, 2023. Volunteers will be needed for approximately 8 hours on the day of the event. A 1 hour mandatory training session before the event will also be required.  Please see below the available volunteer roles. 


Logistics Volunteer: Working alongside Kids Help Phone staff, this role will ensure all site logistics are in place and ready to go. This will include helping with set up and tear down. People helping in this role will still be able to do the Walk if they choose to do so. 
 
Event Experience Volunteer:  Monitor checkpoints along the route and the start and finish line; cheering, entertaining, motivating and providing assistance for Walkers. People helping in this role will not be able to do the Walk. 
 
Food & Beverage Volunteer: Organize onsite food and beverage distribution and ensure all health and safety protocols are being followed. These volunteers will be required to wear gloves and masks when handling food. People helping in this role will not be able to do the Walk. 

Guest Services Volunteer:   This role is a key function at a Walk site. You will collect fundraising monies, review pledge form information, and answer general questions. You will be required to attend a 30-minute training session 3-4 days before the Walk. People helping in this role will still be able to do the Walk if they choose to do so.

We are looking for Volunteer Drivers to help transport our clients to and from appointments ie. medical appointmens, banking appointments, transportation to the grocery store ect.. We are also looking for Volunteers to provide social outings with our clients. This may include going for a walk, going to the beach where there is a Life Guard on duty, going for coffee ect.

Mileage and Expenses will be reimbursed.
