Catulpa Community Support Services is seeking individuals residing in the County of Simcoe or the Region of York, with a strong interest in services and programs for those with special needs, to oversee the organization’s governance and future policy within a Volunteer Board of Director role in Barrie, ON. Individuals with disabilities, and those from diverse backgrounds and experiences are encouraged to apply. 
 
Currently, Catulpa Community Support Services invites volunteer applicants with experience in:  
* Finance experience in or understanding of appropriate financial controls and management practices required to achieve key financial metrics. 
 
Volunteer Board of Directors: Role and Time Commitment 
 
The Catulpa Community Support Services’ Board is responsible for effective governance of the agency through oversight of strategic planning, fiscal review and determination of mission related policy. It is not responsible for fundraising, personnel, programs, services, curricula or budgets. Volunteer Directors provide special skills and knowledge, (finance, law, social services, healthcare, etc.) within the Board setting.  
 
Meetings take place in Barrie, ON six times annually for approximately three hours per meeting. Successful Board of Director applicants are appointed for a term of three years and provided a mentor.

Duties will depend on each agencies’ current projects and priorities but may include the following: 
1. In a friendly manner, greet visitors and direct them to the appropriate agency. Answer questions regarding all four agencies. Call appropriate agency to announce visitors. 
2. Direct couriers with packages to the appropriate agency. When appropriate, receive and sign packages from couriers and bring packages back to the appropriate staff. 
3. Sort incoming mail according to each agency and deliver to each agency. Assist with outgoing mail: ensure mail is picked up when postman delivers mail. 
4. Maintain the levels of brochures in reception area displays. Restock from reception storage. Notify appropriate agency when more stock is needed. Maintain bulletin boards in reception area. 
5. Maintain the general tidiness of the waiting area, including the children’s area. Wipe children’s toys on a regular basis. 
6. Inform appropriate staff when front desk supplies are low so supplies can be replenished. 
7. Review communications log each day. Make entries to the communications log, as needed. 
8. Inform visitors of ShopCNIB store days and hours (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) if they inquire about the CNIB store. 
9. Keep an eye out for disoriented visitors outside. People are often confused by what door to come in and may need guidance. Assist them when possible. 
10. Respond to questions regarding room bookings. 
11. Assist staff with set up of shared meeting spaces as required. 
12. Assist staff with opening and closing of the building.

Board members are required to participate in one standing committee: fundraising, strategic planning and/or governance.People 18+ of all abilities welcome to apply. There is a Board requirement that a percentage of people with disabilities are members of the Board.
United Way of Bruce Grey, Backpack Program

Assist in 'stuffing' backpacks with back to school supplies, based on the age and gender of the recipient.  
 
The United Way of Bruce Grey conducts a community collection of back to school supplies. These supplies are then pulled together into backpacks for 4 different age ranges. Based upon applications for back to school supplies, backpacks are created for the specific gender and age of the children and youth.  
 
Help is needed to create these backpacks.

Provide weekly companionship to client of Breaking Down Barriers. Meet for conversation, maybe go for an outing and just be a friendly face to someone who may otherwise be isolated.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Owen Sound
A Big Brother/Sister spends an hour or 2 per week with their Little Brother/Sister; mentoring them through real life experience. There are opportunities to meet in the Community one to one, in the Community as a group, in the school one to one, or in the school as a group. The 'Big' is another voice in the youth's life and allows them to feel connected to their community and have a friend in a sometimes lonely world.
South West Local Health Integration Network, London Office, Home and Community Care
Various accessible community spaces, such as community center and family health offices
Peer Leaders are volunteers in the South West Self Management Program, who facilitate the Living a Healthy Life workshop series for individuals with chronic health conditions. The workshop series contains 6 sessions - each 2.5 hours in length. Workshops are offered in a community setting with groups of 6-15 participants. Leaders are required to facilitate 2 workshops per year. Peer leaders receive paid mileage and honorarium for each workshop they facilitate.

• Work with a team of volunteers to sort fruits and vegetables into individual orders 
• Handle food gently and hygienically, and arrange the boxes for maximum appeal 
• Assist with packing site set-up and clean-up

Volunteer Coach: As a volunteer coach with Special Olympics sports, you would support athletes as they learn new skills in a particular sport and support the athlete and their team during competitions. We are looking for volunteers for each sport team offered in the Owen Sound area.
