Parkinson Canada is recruiting Support Group Facilitators for Orillia, ON.

 

The Support Group Facilitator plays a critical role in the delivery of support services at community level. Once a month, they create a confidential and welcoming space, where people living with Parkinson’s and/or their care partners can share their experiences and develop supportive relationships in a group setting.

 

The group meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 1:30-3:30 ET.

 

As a Support Group Facilitator, you bring a keen desire to make a difference in the lives of people affected by Parkinson’s.  Your empathetic approach, enthusiasm for learning, and ability to facilitate discussion about issues related to Parkinson’s are key factors in ensuring that monthly support groups are safe spaces.

We are bringing on several high school youth to join Season 5 of our Food Leader Interview Series! Our youth Interviewers conduct virtual video interviews with professionals working in our food systems (aka Canadian food leaders). This role is responsible for participating in virtual training sessions, designing interview questions, communicating with their selected Interviewee, and carrying out an interview over Zoom. 

No prior experience is required! You must currently be a high school student or of high school age (14-19). 

Our goal is to provide a flexible and self-driven atmosphere where you’re free to explore your interests, gain new skills, and ultimately contribute to an important youth-driven project to inspire and educate youth about agri-food careers!

Description of Duties:

As a Volunteer Mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters, you’ll be matched with a young person (ages 6–16) to provide friendship, support, and guidance through regular one-on-one visits. Your role is to build a consistent and trusting relationship that helps your mentee develop confidence, resilience, and life skills.

Community-Based Mentoring:

  • Commit to spending 2–4 hours per week with your mentee for a minimum of one year.

  • Plan fun, low-cost outings based on shared interests (e.g., playing sports, going for walks, cooking, visiting local attractions).

  • Act as a consistent and caring role model.

  • Maintain regular communication with program staff for support and match monitoring.

In-School Mentoring:

  • Visit your mentee for 1 hour each week during school hours (September to June).

  • Engage in non-academic activities such as board games, crafts, or conversation in a supervised school setting.

  • Focus on building self-esteem, emotional well-being, and social skills.

  • Follow school guidelines and BBBS program standards.

All mentors receive training, ongoing support, and resources from our experienced team. No special skills required—just a desire to make a difference!

We are looking for event day volunteers for our 2025 Kidney Walk that will be responsible for registering walk participants, set-up/take-down of the event, and route marshaling on Sunday September 7th at St. Vincent Park (65 Blake St, Barrie, On L4M 1J9) from 8am-1pm.

Description:
Volunteers will assist with the setup, execution, and takedown of Paws for a Cause, a Pet Walk-a-Thon fundraiser for Samaritan House. This is a fun, outdoor event supporting vulnerable individuals and families in Simcoe County. Volunteers will be assigned to a certain role, you will not be expected to do all of the duties listed below, those are the duties for all of the roles. 

Expected Activities:

  • Help with event setup (tables, signs, water stations, etc.)

  • Assist with participant registration and check-in

  • Guide and encourage participants along the walking route

  • Hand out water and refreshments to participants and pets

  • Assist with event activities (games, raffles, prize tables, etc.)

  • Answer participant questions and provide general event support

  • Help with event cleanup and takedown after the walk concludes
