Description (Service) COVID-19 Response As of March 16, 2020, the United Way of Bruce Grey has temporarily closed its offices to the public until further notice. Please call or email for assistance. 
 
As of August 4, 2020, the ban on disconnection for non-payment for natural gas and electricity has ended. Customer who were behind in payments prior to March should expect collection activities and disconnection notices in the following weeks.  
Utilities must let a customer know their account is overdue at least seven days prior to issuing a disconnection notice.  
 
Assistance with utility arrears is available through the usual programs (see below) 
 
In addition there is a special program available to those whose income has been affected by the pandemic. 
COVID-19 Energy Assistance Program (CEAP): for customers who are having difficulty paying their utility bills due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. 
* Available to consumers who have fallen behind by at least two billing cycles, but whose accounts were in good standing when provincial emergency was declared (Mar 17, 2020) 
* Available for those unemployed on the date they apply for funding, and have received Employment Insurance or the Canada Emergency Response Benefit since March 17, 2020 
* Provides electricity customers with up to $230 in support if they primarily use electricity for heating, or if they use energy-intensive medical devices, and up to $115 otherwise 
* Provides natural gas customers with up to $160 if they reside in Northern Ontario, and up to $80 if they reside elsewhere 
* Those who have received support from the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) or the Ontario Electricity Support Program in the recent past are ineligible 
 
Applications will be available through the utility providers’ websites and will be accepted by email, mail, on-line application or by phone as of July 13, 2020. 
Customers will be credited on their utility account.

Regular Service: 
Offers financial assistance for low-income families and individuals living below the poverty line to pay for the next delivery of wood, oil or propane 
 
A venture of the United Way of Bruce Grey and funded by community donations * The financial assistance offered by the program is coordinated with a network of community agencies working in partnership with Bruce County and Grey County Housing as well as other community partners 
 
Program pays up to $600 for furnace oil, propane, cord wood and wood pellets, pending funding availability and meeting the program's criteria * If approved the program pays for current needs or the next delivery - it does not cover arrears * For all COD (cash on delivery), requires pre-approval prior to ordering of any product - oil, propane or wood products 
 
During COVID-19 pandemic, need for disconnection notice is waived for the relevant communities only 
 
May also be able to assist with municipal sewer and water bills for low-income individuals with a disconnection notice * Will provide up to $500 * Grant is credited directly towards the bill for the following municipalities:  
Meaford: homeowners and renters  
Owen Sound : renters only  
Saugeen Shores: renters only  
 
May provide up to $500 for furnace repairs * Repairs cannot be already done * May require a second opinion before repair work is started

Low-income households who are at risk of disconnection or need assistance for oil, propane, cord wood and pellets and have exhausted all other sources of financial support * If LEAP funds (natural gas and electricity) are exhausted this fund MAY also support natural gas and electricity applications 
 
Applicants need to meet income requirements * Bill must be in applicant's name * Approval of grant MUST be done prior to ordering of product

General Income guidelines: 
Max income for 2 or fewer in the household: $28,000 
Max income for 3 or 4 in the household: $39,000 
Max income for 5 or more in the household: $48,000
Application Grey and Bruce County residents call 2-1-1 to apply or to determine funding availability and eligibility 
 
Documentation will be requested at time of follow up with United Way - may be able to fax or email to United Way office if transportation is an issue
