Description (Service) Free assistance for individuals unable to complete their income tax and benefit return themselves and unable to pay for assistance. Volunteers can help complete the income tax and benefit return if income is low and tax situation is simple. 
Does not complete income tax and benefit returns for: bankrupt individuals * individuals who have capital gains or losses, employment expenses, or business or rental income and expenses.

Eligibility Suggested maximum income used as a guideline only: 
Single individual – up to $35,000 
Two-person family – up to $45,000 (combined income of a couple, or one adult with one child under 18) 
+ add $2,500 for each additional dependent child in the family 
Volunteers do not prepare tax returns for complex situations such as: 
* individuals who file for bankruptcy; 
* self-employed individuals; 
* individuals who report capital gains or losses; or 
* individuals who report employment expenses, or business or rental income and 
Eligible taxpayers normally served by the CVITP include 
* Aboriginal peoples; 
* Low-income individuals and social assistance recipients; 
* Newcomers to Canada; 
* Seniors; and 
* Students
