Description (Service)

Assists individuals, couples and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless to secure affordable permanent housing in Bruce County.

This fund may be able to provide emergency financial assistance for the following depending on funding availability:

  • rent arrears
  • utility arrears
  • first or last month's rent
  • moving expenses

Satellite Human Services offices are also located at:

  • 529 Gary Street, Kincardine
  • 1243 MacKenzie Road, Port Elgin
  • 268 Berford Street, Wiarton

Areas Served Bruce County
Eligibility Ages: 16 year(s) and up Canadian Citizen, Landed Immigrant or have Refugee Claimant Status and be living in Bruce County

Recipients of OW or ODSP as well as low income non-social assistance households are eligible to apply to this fund

Maximum after-tax household income:
  • 1 person - less than $27,352
  • 2 persons - less than $38,682
  • 3 persons - less than $47,375
  • 4 persons - less than $54,704
  • 5 persons - less than $61,161
  • 6 persons - less than $66,998
  • 7 persons - less than $72,367
  • 8 persons - less than $77,363
  • 9 persons - less than $82,056
  • 10 persons - less than $86,495


Households living in rent-geared-to-income housing are only able to apply for assistance with utility arrears

All application funding requests will be assessed for their long term sustainability of permanent affordable housing. Funds will only be paid in advance, directly to vendors (ex landlords, utility companies and moving companies). Not able to reimburse applicants after expenses have already been paid for.

Required documents:
  • Verification of income (for applicants not receiving OW/ODSP) - Pay stub or bank statement
  • Utility arrears - Disconnect notice and/or recent bill
  • Rent arrears - N4, L2, eviction order or letter from landlord
  • First or last month's rent - Rent verification form or lease
  • Moving expenses - Rent verification (see above) and moving truck or company quote
