Service: Environmental Health Program

Description (Service) As part of the Health Unit's Environmental Health program, Public Health Inspectors work to protect members of the community in various settings. Staff inspect food premises and help train kitchen staff on safe food handling practices. Daycare and personal service sites are also inspected by Health Unit staff. Public Health Inspectors provide information about water quality results and the maintenance of wells. They also test the water of area beaches for safety. Public Health Inspectors investigate animal bite incidents for potential exposure to rabies and provide information and education on the need to ensure pets are vaccinated against the disease. Information about protecting yourself against West Nile Virus and Lyme Disease is also provided.
