Description (Service)

Provides free and confidential care to individuals who have experienced sexual assault and/or abuse by an intimate partner.

We offer:

  • Emergency medical care
  • Testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy
  • Crisis emotional support
  • Planning for safety for you and your family
  • Evidence collection and photo documentation
  • Assessment for non-visible injury after strangulation
  • Arrangements to talk to police, if you wish
  • Social Work counseling
  • Follow up care and community referrals

Our team of specially trained nurses are available on-call 24 hours a day through the Emergency Department at Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) for anyone who has recently been assaulted. Otherwise visits are scheduled in our clinic. All genders are welcome.
Counseling is available for people who have experienced sexual trauma in the past. Specialized pediatric sexual assault assessment (age 12 and under) is available through a referral by Child and Family Services.

Hours Service available through the PRHC Hospital Emergency Department: Mon-Sun 24 hrs
Women's Health Care Centre: Mon-Fri 8:30 am-12 noon and 1 pm-4:30 pm

Eligibility No restrictions
Application Recent victims of sexual assault and/or domestic violence are recommended go to the Emergency Department for assessment and medical treatment by an on-call nurse, or call 705-743-2121 ext 0. 
 
People who have experienced sexual assault or domestic violence more than two weeks ago are recommended to call the Women's Health Care Centre for an appointment (all genders). 
 
If the sexual assault victim is a child, first contact police or Child & Family Protective Services (CAS). They can arrange for a Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner to see the child urgently if needed, or can book an appointment during daytime hours. Contact the nurse on call for the PRHC Sexual Assault program if you have questions or need advice.
