  • Alert Ready Emergency Alert System www.theweathernetwork.com/public-alerts/ -->Alert Ready is a system that allows Canadian government officials at the federal, provincial and municipal level to issue all types of public safety messages. Media companies, including television, radio stations & websites access the alerts and relay them to their consumers. Also provides information on emergency preparedness.

The main risks that the public should prepare for are:
  • Flooding and dam failures
  • Hazardous materials spills
  • Severe Storms - including tornadoes
  • Power Outages
  • Public health emergencies
  • Resource shortages

Make a plan:
Encourage people to take the time to think about how they will react in an emergency, i.e.:
  • Things they may need - ID, insurance documents, family photos, keys, medication, cell phone, money, wallet, purse, clothing for a couple days. etc
  • Where will they go? - Family, hotels, evacuations centres
  • What about their pets? Pets are not allowed in evacuation centres
  • What about elderly or disabled family members?

Get a kit:
Encourage callers to develop 72 hour kits that are left by the front door allowing them to grab it and go should they have to evacuate in the middle of the night.
